Record-Breaking Christmas Appeal Raises Over £179,000

04 February 2026

St Elizabeth Hospice is thanking the local community for helping its Christmas campaign, Be a Star, raise a record-breaking £179,830 for the independent Suffolk charity.

From the Be a Star Matched Giving Week and the hospice’s popular Light up a Life remembrance event, to the annual Christmas Jumper Day, Be a Star Online Auction, Santa Dash in Gorleston, Treecycling and individual fundraisers taking on personal challenges, supporters across East & Mid-Suffolk, Great Yarmouth and Waveney joined St Elizabeth Hospice to raise this fantastic amount.

Donations are still coming in, but 2025’s Be a Star appeal has already surpassed the £158,000 raised by 2024’s Be a Star appeal, despite adverse weather conditions seeing the Christmas Day Dip postponed to Valentine’s Day this year.

Ellie Main, Associate Director of Fundraising and Supporter Engagement at St Elizabeth Hospice, said: “Thank you so much to everybody who supported Be a Star and helped raise this phenomenal amount of money. A special thank you to George Baker Shipping as well, for sponsoring our Be a Star appeal.

“Every Christmas, we support patients and their families to make precious memories during the festive period, thanks to the generosity of our supporters.

“Whether you shopped in our hospice shops, joined in our Christmas events like the Santa Dash or supported our Matched Giving Week, every contribution made a real difference to the care we provided over the Christmas period.”

Light up a Life congregation

On average every Christmas, the hospice provides vital care to more than 1,300 people living with progressive and life-limiting illnesses and their families across East & Mid Suffolk, Great Yarmouth and Waveney, for many of whom it will be their last Christmas spent together.

The funds raised by the Be a Star appeal will support the hospice’s vital work in providing free services to improve life for people living with a progressive or life limiting illness throughout East & Mid-Suffolk, Great Yarmouth and Waveney.
