565 Service: Children Support

Our 565 Service provides emotional support for children, young people and families living with a family member with progressive illness.

The service also provides bereavement support following the loss of a loved one, via family meetings, one to one support and group work.

As well as families, we are here to support schools and professionals who work with children dealing with bereavement.

Where do you offer support?

We offer support to young people aged 5-18 in East & Mid-Suffolk whose loved one is known to St Elizabeth Hospice.

We also offer bereavement support, which extends to families who may not have had previous involvement with the hospice, whose loved one died from a life-limiting or progressive illness.

Support may include:

  • Advice and guidance to parents and family members on how to talk about death and dying, what to expect in grief behaviours and what might help
  • Conversations with the child’s school about support needs and how this might be best managed.
  • Child and parent sessions to help express emotions
  • Group activities with other children of a similar age
  • Confidential space to the child or young person, either online or face to face, to explore their experiences and encourage ways of expressing and managing emotions
  • Where appropriate, we may signpost to other organisations.

If you do not fit this criteria, our LivingGrief Hub can signpost you.

Even after Jemma died, the hospice have continued to be there for us, with Harli receiving bereavement support which has been phenomenal.

I cannot fault the 565 Service at all and this continued support has made Harli determined to raise funds for St Elizabeth Hospice, in Jemma’s memory.
