Hospice and DanceEast to host creative workshop for Dying Matters Awareness Week
St Elizabeth Hospice and DanceEast are partnering to host a creative workshop – Living in the Presence of Death – to mark this year’s Dying Matters Awareness Week.
Taking place on 9 May, 9.30am to 5.45pm, at DanceEast’s Jerwood DanceHouse, the creative workshop will explore how conversations about death, dying and grief can help us appreciate life more deeply.
The day, facilitated by Lucy-Anna Howgego, will use creative activities and guided discussion to give participants a safe space to reflect, share experiences and connect with others.
Hugh McElhinney, Compassionate Communities Lead at St Elizabeth Hospice, said: “We are pleased to be working with DanceEast and Lucy-Anna Howgego to host this workshop for Dying Matters Awareness Week.
“It promises to be a day of open conversation and learning around death, dying and grief, in a safe and creative environment.”
Living in the Presence of Death workshop also coincides with ‘Dying Matters Awareness Week’ (4 to 10 May), an annual national initiative which encourages communities, individuals and organisations to come together and open up the conversation around death, dying and bereavement.
Sophie O’Connor, Producer – Creative Health & Communities at DanceEast said: “It is wonderful to be working with St Elizabeth Hospice on this very special workshop for Dying Matters Awareness Week, to unlock the power of creativity and expression to navigate conversations and feelings around death and dying.
“The Jerwood DanceHouse offers a safe, welcoming and inclusive space, and we look forward to hosting this event.”
