Headway

  • Offers exercise in the community for people with brain injury, stroke and neurological conditions
  • Exercise to music/Wii-Fit Monday (pm), Tuesday (am), and Friday (pm) at the Ipswich Hub (Headway House, Ransomes Europark)

Multiple Sclerosis Trust

MS-UK

               -  Chair yoga, Wednesday 11:15am

               -  Yoga on the mat, Wednesday 7:15pm

               -  Seated Pilates, Friday 11:30am-12pm

               -  Supported standing Pilates, Friday 12:15pm-12:45pm

               -  Pilates on the mat, Saturday 9:30am-10:15am

               -  General exercise, Tuesdays and Thursdays (different levels at different times)

MS Society

               -  Pilates, floor, seated and standing

               -  Yoga, floor and seated

John Le Vay – Cancer Support & Information Centre

  • Located within the Oncology and Haematology Department at Ipswich Hospital and offers up to date information regarding exercise opportunities in the community
  • Open Monday-Friday 9:30am-3:30pm
  • Exercise opportunities include:

-  Fun Fit Friday (Ipswich Hospital), general exercise for all cancer types

 

-  Back on Track (Felixstowe Brackenbury Sports Centre), general exercise for all cancer types

 

-  Breast Cancer Exercise Class (Ipswich and Felixstowe), exercises following breast surgery

 

-  Pelvic Floor Exercise (online), for men with prostate and bladder cancer

 

-  3-6 Month Gym Membership (variety of locations), with subsidised rates

 

-  Coach-Led Swimming (Fore Street Swimming Pool Ipswich)

 

-  Exercises following abdominal surgery (Ipswich Hospital)

 

-  Get Nordic Walking, with subsidised rates

 

-  Swim and Socialise (Ufford Park Hotel)

 

Penny Brohn UK – Living Well with Cancer

 

Online movement and exercise sessions available for anyone with cancer and anyone supporting someone with cancer (over the age of 18)

 

Classes available include:

  • Yoga
  • Pilates
  • Qi Gong
  • Dance

Classes are all free but donations are welcome

Dance for Parkinson’s

  • Dance sessions delivered in partnership with English National Ballet
  • Held Wednesdays 14:00-15:30 at Dance East Ipswich
  • Sessions are 1 hour 15 minutes long, including time for refreshments and socialising
  • £6 per session (£60 for a full term)

Positively Parky

  • Circuit exercise sessions for people with Parkinson’s
  • Held at Martlesham Leisure Centre, Ipswich
  • Beginner/intermediate class Mondays 15:15-16:15
  • Advanced intensive class Mondays 13:45-15:00

Ping Pong Parkinson’s

  • A group designed to help unite people with Parkinson’s through the sport of table tennis
  • Held at Britannia Table Tennis Club Ipswich, Saturdays 13:00-15:30
  • £5 per session

Boxing for Parkinson’s

  • Boxing sessions for people with Parkinson’s
  • Held at Gainsborough Sports Centre Ipswich
  • Low intensity class Thursdays 13:00-14:00 (and half hour refreshments after the class)
  • High intensity class Thursdays 14:00-15:00 (and half hour refreshments after the class)

  • Breathe Well classes of gentle exercise to help open up the lungs
  • Held at Whitton Sports Centre, Tuesday and Thursday 11:30am-12:30pm
  • Cost of £3 a session

Asthma and Lung UK (formerly the British Lung Foundation)

  • Free online exercise videos to follow at home, including warm up, lower limbs, upper limbs and cool down

  • Low impact fitness classes to help flexibility, mobility, strength and cardiovascular fitness
  • Held at Whitton Sports Centre, Mondays 2:00pm – 3:00pm
  • Cost of £3.50 a session or accessed via a class only membership

Active Wellbeing Service - Active Suffolk (50+)

 

Service designed to support over 50s to find suitable physical activity in their area.  Currently running in collaboration with:

  • The Whitton Unity Centre Hub
  • Hadleigh Health Centre
  • Needham Market Country Practice
  • The Constable Country Rural Medical Practice

ActivLives – Better Balance Sessions

 

Exercise sessions to help reduce the risk of falls in adults aged 55 and above.  Currently run in the following areas;

  • Ipswich
  • Felixstowe
  • Woodbridge
  • Leiston
  • Waldringfield

Cost of £5 a session with refreshments included

SPOT Wellbeing (over 50’s)

  • Team of occupational therapists and physiotherapists working with over 50s to improve and maintain mental and physical wellbeing
  • Includes a 6 week exercise program
  • Free service, currently running in Ipswich

  • 12 week programme including supervised exercise sessions and education

Places Leisure – in partnership with East Suffolk Council

 

Exercise and sport opportunities for all people, including people with disabilities.  Different opportunities may be available at different sites.  Current locations locally include:

  • Deben Leisure Centre
  • Felixstowe Leisure Centre
  • Leiston Leisure Centre
  • Brackenbury Sports Centre

Membership fees applicable and vary depending on services used.
