Son raises over £1,000 for hospice after completing 10k challenge in memory of father

10 May 2022

Andrew Goldie has raised more than £1,000 for St Elizabeth Hospice after completing the Grand East Anglia Run (GEAR) 10k run in Kings Lynn this May.

Finishing in a time of 90 minutes and 52 seconds, Andrew ran the race on 1st May in memory of his Dad, Albert, who received end-of-life support from St Elizabeth Hospice, at his home in Hopton-on-Sea, after having being diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer in September 2018, before he passed away aged 82-years-old on 3rd October 2021.

Andrew, who lives in Kings Lynn, said: “I am so pleased I managed to complete my run for the hospice after the brilliant support they gave Dad.

“It was important for me to be able to give something back, as their support was invaluable to both Dad and my whole family. Thank you to everyone who has donated towards my run and to all who supported me on the day, it really means a great deal.”

Since launching in April 2019, the healthcare partnership between St Elizabeth Hospice and East Coast Community Healthcare (ECCH) has delivered vital care to more than 2,700 people and their families throughout the communities of Great Yarmouth and Waveney.

This care has been provided via the service’s 24-hour advice line OneCall, at Beccles Hospital, in the community through hospice clinical nurse specialists working across Great Yarmouth and Waveney or received support through the hospice’s emotional, wellbeing and bereavement support service, LivingGrief.

Joanne Rodger, events and challenges manager at St Elizabeth Hospice, added: “On behalf of the hospice I want to say a massive congratulations and thank you to Andrew for completing his 10k race but also for raising such a brilliant amount of money for the hospice, with donations still coming in.

“The generosity and support of people in the local community, like Andrew, makes a big difference to our services and helps our team to continue to evolve our care to support more patients, and their families, during difficult times in their lives.”
