Material Memories – Remembering Albert Usher

30 July 2020

Albert Usher was diagnosed with metastasised gall bladder cancer in January 2020. He lived a busy life, continuing to care for his wife who had Parkinson’s and dementia at home, until he became too ill to do so in May 2020. He was treated with respect and dignity during his last few days at the Hospice and his children were able to be at his bedside. He died peacefully in the early hours of 7 June 2020.

We had these 8 bears made from Dad’s shirts, trousers and motorcycle gloves, and each one has a club section badge on the back. When Dad retired from Yorkshire to Suffolk in 1994, he wanted to let his interest in vintage motorcycles run full throttle, however he found there was no AJS and Matchless club section in the area. Obviously the only answer was to set up a new section in East Suffolk, and over the next 25 years the club held quiz nights, shows, runs and rallies.

His funeral on 30 June featured a Triumph motorcycle with sidecar hearse and a club escort of 18 bikes, and was led by his son on one of his own bikes.
