Hospice sends special Jubilee Memory Bear to the Queen
Ahead of the Jubilee celebration weekend St Elizabeth Hospice has sent a special gift to Her Majesty The Queen.
To celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, earlier this year the hospice released 200 limited edition memory bears, in hospice brand colours, with each bear featuring a unique number and authenticity certificate, hand stitched by needle crafter, Sue Marshall, who also makes the hospice’s much-loved Material Memory bears.
And to send the hospice’s best wishes to the Queen, the number 52 Memory Bear (pictured with hospice nurse Julie Donohoe), corresponding with the year she acceded the throne, has been sent to Buckingham Palace to mark the monarch’s milestone.
Pauline Donkin, head of individual giving & supporter care at St Elizabeth Hospice, said: “We are delighted to be sending our special gift to the Queen.
“St Elizabeth Hospice has always had a strong link to the royal family, which began in 1989 when the HRH Princess Royal opened the hospice. So naturally we wanted to show our support and thanks to the Queen on this her Platinum Jubilee.”
Material Memories are handcrafted keepsake bears made from the clothes of loved ones. All the bears are fully lined and can be made from almost any material, with Sue using her sewing talent to create a unique bear that is personal and serves as special reminder of loved ones no longer with us.
Sue has been making the unique bears, alongside the hospice, for four years and, in 2021, she passed the landmark 250th Material Memory bear being created.
Available to purchase on a first come, first served basis, Jubilee bears can be bought for a suggested donation of £40 per bear, with money raised being donated to the independent Suffolk charity.
