Hospice Hosts Child Bereavement Training Sessions for Local Schools
Hospice Hosts Child Bereavement Training Sessions for Local Schools
More than 35 schools have received training on how to provide compassionate support to bereaved children and young people, thanks to St Elizabeth Hospice’s 565 Service.
Taking place in November and December, the free one-day Dying to Talk training sessions gave representatives, from local schools, information on how to provide effective support to bereaved children and young people.
The sessions covered such topics as how to effectively talk to young people about loss, how to support children through pre-bereavement and understanding the unique ways children perceive grief and loss. Schools also received guidance on creating a ‘bereavement-friendly’ environment.
Sam Brimicombe, Specialist Children’s Worker at St Elizabeth Hospice, said: “It has been a pleasure to welcome so many local schools to our 565 Service’s Dying to Talk training sessions.
“We have had lots of great conversations and plenty of enthusiasm from all who attended, as we provided guidance on how best to support young people through their grief journey.
“If you would like to find out more about these sessions, and our wider 565 Service, please visit our website to learn how we can support you, your family or your school.”
Part of the hospice’s bereavement service, LivingGrief, the 565 Service gives emotional support to children, young people and families living with a family member with a progressive illness. The service
also provides bereavement support following the loss of a loved one via family meetings, one-to-one counselling and group work.
