Hop to it! Suffolk 2025 Artist Spotlight – Megan Johnson

Megan Johnson’s artistic base is currently in East London, although her family lives in Ipswich and she’s regularly at home.
Megan’s had a passion for creativity from a young age, but it wasn’t until she studied at college that she truly immersed herself in design.
‘That’s when I began to seriously explore and develop my artistic skills. This eventually led to a degree and my current job as a graphic designer.
‘I don’t have a particular style, but I use street art as a frequent inspiration, and I focus on airbrushing and challenging myself to create realistic or three-dimensional effects, constantly pushing my skills and experimenting with new techniques.’

Megan created Athena’s Companion for The Big Hoot art trail in 2022, so when the call for artists went out for Hop to it! she knew she had to get involved.
‘When I first saw the announcement of the trail, I thought I’d love to be part of that. It’s a great opportunity to participate in an event which brings a sense of fun and enjoyment to the community, and supports a charity.’
Seeing her work brighten the town while contributing to a vital cause is, she says, highly rewarding.
‘I love being able to combine creativity with giving back, and working physically rather than on a computer for a change. Seeing the diversity of the sculptures is also inspiring, as every artist brings something unique.
‘The challenge for me is translating my 2D design onto a 3D sculpture. It’s tricky because there are various shapes and spaces that require adaptations of my original design.’
