Go The Extra Leap for OneCall!
St Elizabeth Hospice is calling on the local community to ‘go the extra leap’ for their local hospice with a unique Leap Year themed fundraiser for its 24/7 phone support line, OneCall.
Taking place between 22nd February and 1st March, this new fundraiser, by the hospice, challenges supporters to raise £1,152 for the extra 24 hours needed to facilitate OneCall, in 2024, as part of the Leap Year.
Supporters can donate by visiting the hospice’s Facebook page and they are also encouraged to share the fundraising link with their friends, family and colleagues.
Pauline Donkin, Head of Fundraising at St Elizabeth Hospice, said: “OneCall is such a vital service to many people throughout the local community.
“For the first time ever, we are hosting a unique week-long fundraiser asking supporters to ‘go the extra leap’ to help support OneCall and the extra 24 hours it will be operating for, as part of this year’s Leap Year.
“Every penny you donate really will make a difference, as we aim to hit our target and help support this important service which is a real lifeline to so many in our community.”
OneCall is St Elizabeth Hospice’s specialist 24/7 telephone helpline and provides quick and appropriate advice to members of the public, patients, relatives, carers, medical professionals and health and social care workers.
On average, the service answers over 30,000 calls a year, providing advice on symptom control, such as pain, anxiety and nausea, and access to other hospice services like bereavement support.
Calls are answered by a team of care Coordinators and senior nurses, with the support of therapists, counselors and doctors. Some calls will result in a visit to patients home for face-to-face care.
Peter Girt, and his wife Sally, received support from St Elizabeth Hospice and OneCall in 2022: “Their care was so important to us, especially knowing we had 24/7 support via the hospice’s round the clock phone line, OneCall, which we called on a number of occasions and they always gave us reassurance and advice on how to make Sally as comfortable as possible.”
