Material Memories is a special way to remember your loved one.
Each bear is handcrafted with care by one of our team of volunteer needle workers. Every design is unique to you, as your loved one’s clothes are used to create the bears.
If you have any special requests, for example – an emblem on a tie, patch or piece of lace on a blouse, these can be incorporated for you.
We kindly ask that no more than four different pieces of materials are provided per bear, and that all materials are freshly washed.
When my mum died, I knew that I wanted to make something special from her clothes.
I pulled out clothes that had a special meaning…including the ‘lost’ wedding dress that I had kept.
Each bear feels like I’ve still got a little bit of my wonderful mum with me & helps me remember the good times

How to order your Material Memories bear
All proceeds from your Material Memories donation will go towards our outstanding care to patients and families across our region.
By ordering a bear, you will not only have a meaningful tribute to treasure, you will be helping to fund our care for today, tomorrow & into the future.
Cost of your bear
Each bear costs £40, which includes a suggested donation of £20.
This donation could fund a hospice nurse to work for 1 hour, providing essential care to a patient with life-limiting illness.
On your appointment, £20 will be secured for the deposit. Following completion of the bear, the remaining £20 will be due to the hospice for the final balance.
You can pay your balance via card, cash or cheque.
Ordering your bear
- Give our team a phone call on 01473 723600 to request a Material Memories bear. Our team will arrange an appointment with you at the hospice in Ipswich.
- Once you’ve had the call, please fill in the below form which will go directly to the team ahead of your appointment.
- When you meet for your appointment, please bring along the clothing, freshly laundered.
- A £20 deposit will need to be payable at your appointment. You can pay this via card, cash or cheque.
Completion of your bear
Our dedicated volunteer team of needle workers will carefully make your Material Memories bear.
Please allow 12 weeks for your unique bear to be made.
Upon completion, our fundraising team will contact you to arrange an appointment at the hospice in Ipswich to receive your keepsake bear.
Please remember to pay the remaining balance when you collect.
