Young shadow trustee joins the hospice
Young People, taking up ‘Young Shadow Trustee’ volunteer roles with local organisations, are showing a positive future for leadership of charities in Suffolk.
The journey to become a trustee has become easier, with the Young Leadership Project, through Community Action Suffolk.
The Young Shadow Trustee role is a unique volunteer opportunity to learn more about the role and responsibilities of trustees, by being an active member of board discussions and representing the voice of young people. As the average age of a trustee in England is 61, this is an age group often missing on a board of trustees!
Eli Sanyari, 22 years old, the first Young Shadow Trustee in Suffolk, is discovering the mystery behind the trustee role with St Elizabeth Hospice, and summarises his volunteering experience in 5 words: ‘Enlightening, fascinating, interesting, diverse, intense! ‘
Rachel Backshall, director of income generation and marketing at the hospice said: “The voluntary sector also recognises this as a fantastic initiative. We also feel it is a great way of getting young people involved not only with the hospice movement but also the charity sector as a whole!”
