You are invited to view St Elizabeth Hospice’s refurbishment

31 March 2011

Members of the public, community groups and health professionals are invited to view the £1.7m refurbishment of St Elizabeth Hospice.

The in-patient unit has been revamped to make it a more welcoming environment for patients and their families.

The major building project, which started last November, is due to finish in May.

It is the first time the in-patient unit has had a complete upgrade since the Hospice opened in Foxhall Road, Ipswich, 21 years ago.

The entrances to the Hospice have also been remodelled.

Members of the public are invited to view the new-look Hospice at a series of open days and interactive tours in May.

These will take place before the patients are moved back to the unit. There will also be a chance to meet staff and volunteers.

St Elizabeth Hospice’s chief executive Jane Petit said: “St Elizabeth Hospice improves lives for people in East Suffolk living with a progressive illness and support for their families. We would love to welcome those interested in finding out more about our services or how to support us, to one of our open events.”

She added she was pleased how the building work, part-funded by a £496,000 grant from the Department of Health, had progressed and was confident patients and their families would benefit from the improvements.

The Hospice has remained open throughout the building programme and measures were put in place to try and ensure there was as little disruption as possible during the work.

There will be separate open days for health and social care workers as well as Hospice staff, current patients and volunteers.
