Wendy finishes Brighton Marathon to take hospice fundraising total past £5,000

21 September 2021

Wendy Kelway has taken her ongoing fundraising total for St Elizabeth Hospice past £5,000 after completing the Brighton Marathon this September.

Over the last year, Wendy has raised vital funds through a number of fundraising activities, including baking cakes for friends and completing a 12-hour runathon in aid of the hospice for the care and support they gave to her father.

Joined once again by her friend and running partner, Cathy Baxter, who also joined Wendy on her runathon, Wendy completed the Brighton Marathon on 12th September in a time of 5 and a half hours.

“It was amazing to complete the Brighton Marathon and crossing the finish line was very emotional,” said Wendy.

“I knew dad was with me in the toughest bits and cheering me on. It was lovely to hear my husband cheering me on in the last kilometre and friends on the final 100 metre. Their support made it all worthwhile, so much so that we have already signed up for Manchester next April!”

Wendy chose to take on her series of fundraising challenges in memory of her father, Barrie Murton, who died in August 2019, at his home, while under the care of St Elizabeth Hospice after having been diagnosed with terminal cancer.

With the 12-hour runathon seeing Cathy and Wendy taking turns to run 30 minutes on a treadmill at The Shannon pub in Bucklesham, running a combined 66 miles in the process.
