Walking over hot coals for the Hospice this Halloween
A volunteer who helps patients and their families at St Elizabeth Hospice will be walking over hot coals to raise money for the east Suffolk charity.
The Hospice is holding its first ever Halloween Firewalk where Scott Bell, who held the Guinness World Record for the longest walk over hot coals, will be showing people how to do it.
And among those ready to put mind over matter at the Halloween event is well-known Ipswich-based therapist Gill Shemming, who runs Caring Touch in the town and provides sports therapy to high-profile local athletes including marathon runner Helen Decker,
Mrs Shemming, who in her spare time regularly helps out at the Hospice supporting patients and their carers with complementary therapy such as massage, said: “I don’t do running or cycling or swimming so I have decided to walk over hot coals at 550 degrees Celsius as to me this is the ultimate challenge. St Elizabeth Hospice provides a fantastic service helping people at a time in their lives when they feel overwhelmed and distressed. And I hope as many people as possible will sponsor me to do the Firewalk to help support Hospice services.”
The fundraising Firewalk forms part of a Halloween party for all the family at Greshams Sports and Social Club, Tuddenham Road, Ipswich from 6pm on Saturday October 30th.
There will be entertainment for children and adults alike and those who cannot pluck up the courage to do the Firewalk can attend the event to spectate and enjoy the Halloween party.
The Hospice’s community fundraiser Rachael Mittell said: “This is the first time we have organised an event like this and we hope lots of people of all ages will join in.”

The Firewalk is open to over 16s only but people of all ages can attend the party or spectate.
