Town landmarks lit up ahead of Big Hoot 2022

25 November 2021

For keen-eyed commuters and walkers in Ipswich this Wednesday evening, there was a real treat to be seen on some of the town’s landmark buildings.

With less than a year to go to until the launch of the Big Hoot Ipswich 2022, Endeavour House, Old Customs House on the Waterfront and Digby the Octopus artwork, on the former R&W Paul silo, at the St Peter’s Dock Car Park, were lit up with Big Hoot 2022 themed imagery.

The imagery was projected by Ipswich based projection mapping and video projection company, Motion Mapping, alongside St Elizabeth Hospice who, with creative producers Wild in Art, will be bringing the Big Hoot 2022 art trail to Ipswich next summer.

Liz Baldwin, Corporate and Sponsorship Fundraising Manager at St Elizabeth Hospice, added: “We hope all visitors to Ipswich this Wednesday enjoyed the colourful Big Hoot imagery. We are so grateful to Motion Mapping for helping us bring an early sprinkle of the Big Hoot magic and colour to the town this autumn, ahead of the trail next year.

“It was so nice to see iconic Ipswich buildings lit up with the Big Hoot and to celebrate the support of our presenting partners ABP Port of Ipswich, Suffolk County Council and Ipswich Borough Council.”

The Big Hoot Ipswich 2022 is the third art trail brought to Ipswich by St Elizabeth Hospice in partnership with creative producers Wild in Art, following the success of Pigs Gone Wild 2016 and Elmer’s Big Parade Suffolk 2019.

As part of the Big Hoot 2022, between June and September next year, 50 ornately decorated owl sculptures, featuring designs celebrating all things Suffolk, will be scattered throughout Ipswich showcasing the wealth of artistic talent of the county and beyond, as part of the biggest free art event in Suffolk which attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors to the town.

With both previous art trails raising awareness and funds for the hospice, as well as encouraging more people to visit Ipswich town centre, the independent Suffolk charity are hoping next year’s event will be a similar success.

Stuart Harris, Creative Director Motion Mapping, added: “What better way is there to spend a weekday November evening, than bringing colour and excitement to Ipswich! Being a part of the Big Hoot is fantastic as it is such an exciting event for the town.

“Even on Wednesday, we had lots of people coming up to us to ask questions about the images and the Big Hoot 2022 in general. We cannot wait for next summer to arrive now and look forward to continuing to support the hospice in all the great work it does in the community.”
