The Willson Walkers take on the Midnight Walk
With less than two months to go before the St Elizabeth Hospice Midnight Walk, there is still time to sign up for the Hospice’s biggest event of the year.
Many supporters are signing up this year in groups of friends, family or colleagues, overwhelmingly in memory of loved-ones. Others take part for a fun night out or to get fit, whilst helping raise money for the charity which provides local Hospice care for local people.
Sam Willson, 32, of Ipswich, is one such supporter who, together with 11 other walkers so far, is taking part this year.
The group, named ‘The Willson Walkers’, has signed up in memory of Sam’s husband James, who died on 27th October 2014, aged 33, having been cared for by St Elizabeth Hospice, Hospice at Home.
‘The Willson Walkers’ is made up primarily of James’ family and some work colleagues from Daisy Distribution, a mobile phone company in Ipswich. They will all be walking the five mile route around Ipswich town centre on Saturday 16th May, along with hundreds of other Hospice supporters.
Sam has set up a St Elizabeth Hospice Giving page to raise sponsorship. She said: “We want to do what we can for St Elizabeth Hospice and to raise as much as possible in sponsorship so they can continue to help others like they helped us.
“The Hospice nurses gave James such comfort, we want to do anything we can to support them.”
As well as the five mile route the Willson Walkers are walking, there is also an eight mile and a more challenging half-marathon circuit which you can choose to walk or run. All routes begin and end at Ipswich Town Football Club and this year’s theme is Pirates, beginning with a suitable warm-up for the entire crew.
This year, for the first time, all routes poignantly pass the Hospice on Foxhall Road where family and friends can place a tag with a personal message dedicated to their loved one on our Tree of Remembrance.
Closing date for registration is 5pm on Thursday 14th May 2015.
