The Pigs Are Coming to Ipswich
‘The Pigs Are Coming’, was the news announced by St Elizabeth Hospice at the Suffolk Show this week as they launched their exciting new project, Pigs Gone Wild.
Pigs Gone Wild will see around 40 pig sculptures displayed on an art trail around Ipswich and the waterfront during summer 2016 in aid of the local charity.
The Hospice also revealed their first pig sculpture at the Suffolk Show, with ‘Tally-ho Trotters’, proving a bit hit with all ages.
Norman Lloyd, the Hospice’s Special Projects Manager, said: “We are thrilled to be working with Wild an Art and bringing this fantastic public art exhibition to our creative town.
“Everyone who was at the Suffolk Show absolutely loved our first pig and we’re extremely excited to start talking to local businesses and artists about sponsoring and creating the other sculptures.
“We are very grateful to our principle media partners East Anglian Daily Times and Ipswich Star and our presenting partner Town 102 for their support and we will be announcing other exciting partnerships soon – so watch this space!”
The local charity has teamed up with Wild in Art to stage Pigs Gone Wild, which will be the biggest ever mass participation, public art event in the town.
Pigs were chosen for the event to celebrate Suffolk’s rich agricultural heritage and association with pig production in the country. A bespoke pig sculpture has been created to be the ‘canvas’ for artists to submit their design.
The larger than life-size pigs, which will be stunningly decorated by local artists and community groups and sponsored by local businesses, will be foraging right across Ipswich and the Waterfront for 10 weeks next year over the summer.
The full grown pigs will be joined by more than 30 piglet sculptures – smaller, but crafted just as creatively, by students and teachers in local schools. The piglets will be displayed in litters in town centre stores and venues for the 10 week period.
This amazing event will not only appeal to local people but will also bring thousands of visitors to the town who will be able to follow the trail which meanders through the town and Waterfront.
Wild in Art is one of the country’s top creative producers of high-impact, public art exhibitions, featuring large-scale, individually designed and decorated ‘animal’ sculptures.
They recently worked with Norfolk charity, Break, to stage GoGoGorillas! in Norwich, which was very successful and brought thousands of visitors to the city.
Pigs Gone Wild is supported by media partners East Anglian Daily Times, Ipswich Star and presenting partner Town 102.
