Take a dip for St Elizabeth Hospice
Are you brave enough to have an early morning dip on Christmas Day?
250 supporters have already signed up, so if you’re thinking of taking the plunge, come along on the day and sign up!
Last year, around 200 people took up the challenge to raise money for the Hospice, and around 300 dippers are expected this year. Many find it a good way of starting Christmas Day, which can be a difficult time for someone who is grieving.
St Elizabeth Hospice’s senior community fundraiser, Rachel Maidment, said: “Christmas is a lovely time of year to give something back and remember a loved one.
The Christmas Day Dip has grown in popularity every year, and this year we hope it will raise £40,000 to help us continue supporting people in Suffolk who have a progressive illness from which they will not recover.
Why not come along first thing, do your dip with friends and family watching, then go home to open your presents and enjoy your Christmas dinner. What a great way to start the festivities.”
Registration opens at 8:30am, and then at 10am, when the horn sounds, everyone will enter the icy cold sea opposite Manning’s Amusements on Sea Road. Mulled wine and mince pies will be served afterwards.
The registration fee is £5 per person, and participants are asked to raise sponsorship. You can also choose to pay £10 to receive a Christmas Day Dip t-shirt. Online registration has now closed, but you can register on the day from 8:30am.
Last year, the event raised over £35,000 for St Elizabeth Hospice—an independent charity that costs £6.6 million a year to run and provides services free of charge in Suffolk. More info
