Tabletop Game Tournament Raises Over £1,000 for Hospice
More than £1,000 has been raised for St Elizabeth Hospice by the inaugural Thasa-Rum-Un Charity Cup held at Langden Games in Ipswich.
Taking place on 16th September, the Thasa-Rum-Un Charity Cup was a one day Blood Bowl Sevens tournament aiming to create a fun community driven day of tabletop gaming in aid of the independent Suffolk charity.
The day saw 22 participants play four matches of the popular Blood Bowl Sevens game for a variety of prizes, with the highest ranked player taking home the Charity Cup. While a raffle was also held, featuring a range of prizes donated from a number of supporting companies helping the tournament raise a brilliant £1,082 – comfortably surpassing the £500 target.
Ken Reynolds, tournament organiser and Marketing Co-ordinator at St Elizabeth Hospice, said: “The tournament was a mixture of a few of my interests. The generosity shown throughout the day was very humbling and I am very grateful to everyone for giving what they could.
“You do not have to spend much time at the hospice or in the company of staff and patients to feel the need to help make sure it is all there for people when they require care services. Our gaming community is quite a niche selection of people in the area, but the hospice still touches the lives of so many of us.
“A special ‘thank you’ must go to Matt Holden at Langden Games for hosting the event and everyone who attended or supported the event in any capacity. The funds raised will help so many people when they need it most.”
All funds raised will go towards St Elizabeth Hospice, which every year delivers specialist palliative care to more than 3,000 people living with a progressive or life-limiting illness, and their families, throughout East Suffolk, Great Yarmouth and Waveney, at a cost of around £12 million annually.
Matt Holden, Langden Games Shop Owner and host of the event, added: “It was our pleasure to be part of the Thasa-Rum-Um Charity Cup and we were honoured to be asked to host the event. It was great to see a mix of local players as well as others from further afield. The amount of generosity shown by the local and wider community in the form of donations and support was astonishing.”
