Suffolk Scouts and Girl Guides Create Special ‘Hoot’ Badge for Big Hoot Ipswich 2022
Suffolk Scouts and Girl Guides have shown their support for St Elizabeth Hospice through their involvement with the ‘Little Hoot’ Community and Education programme, as part of this summer’s Big Hoot Ipswich 2022 art trail.
Through their participation in the ‘Little Hoot’, Suffolk Scouts and Girl Guides Suffolk County have created a new ‘Hoot’ themed badge and designed their very own Little Hoots, which include ‘Grand Owl’, which celebrates over 125 years of Cub Scouts.
Featuring the Little Hoot logo, the Suffolk Scouts and Girl Guides will use this new badge to promote the upcoming Big Hoot Ipswich 2022 and encourage people to flock to Ipswich to support the trail.
Brian Harvey, a County Scouter who designed the Scouts’ Hoot, said: “It is an honour for us to complete another sculpture and support this great cause. We checked the ‘FEATHER’ forecast and we couldn’t wait to return the Little Hoot. The Cubs who joined us were sworn to secrecy and won’t be ‘TALON’ anyone ‘HOO’ its identity is. It has been a joy to paint and helping where I can on behalf of Suffolk Scouts and the St Elizabeth Hospice.”
The Little Hoot community and education programme is running alongside the Big Hoot and has seen many schools and youth groups in Suffolk signing up to be inspired and get creative as part of the art trail.
By joining the learning programme, each school has pledged to raise a minimum of £695 for the hospice, while they have also received a blank ‘Little Hoot’ sculpture to decorate, and a resource pack linked to the curriculum to help teachers stimulate young minds.
All the Little Hoots will come together at the Suffolk Show on the 31st May and 1st June for the pupils and their families to be able to see under one roof and admire the great work and creativity.

Absolutely ‘hoot-tastic’ work! It was a pleasure to have the Cub Scouts visit the hospice and to see their enthusiasm to raise money for its services.
“We look forward to seeing all the Little Hoot sculptures as they gather together at Suffolk Show later this year and help us get even more excited and ready for the Big Hoot Ipswich 2022!”
The Big Hoot Ipswich 2022 is the third art trail brought to Ipswich by St Elizabeth Hospice in partnership with creative producers Wild in Art, following the success of Pigs Gone Wild 2016 and Elmer’s Big Parade Suffolk 2019, which Suffolk Scouts and Girl Guides also supported.
As part of the Big Hoot 2022, 50 ornately decorated owl sculptures will be scattered throughout Ipswich, between 19th June and 3rd September, as part of the biggest free art event in Suffolk which attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors to the town.
