Stuart raises over £10,200 for hospice

03 August 2022

Over £10,200 has been raised by Stuart Abbott for St Elizabeth Hospice to show his gratitude for the support given by the charity to his friend, Trevor Walsh.

Stuart and Trevor first became friends after meeting as colleagues at Sizewell B Power Station in Leiston sixteen years ago. Following Trevor’s cancer diagnosis and admission to the hospice this year, Stuart was keen to show his thanks to the hospice team for the care they are providing Trevor.

Stuart said: “Trevor is one of my best mates, and probably the kindest and nicest person I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. As my birthday was soon I set up a Facebook Fundraising page and a JustGiving page, and it all started from there.

“Initially I was hoping to raise £200 for the hospice to show how much their care has meant to Trevor and his loved ones, but I have been blown away by the generosity of our friends and colleagues as we have surpassed this initial target by quite some distance!

“I regularly visit Trevor at the hospice, and both he and his family are so overwhelmed by the support from everybody and are extremely grateful for all the generous donations. I really hope this money will go some way to helping other people in the same situation as Trevor, receive the brilliant care St Elizabeth Hospice provides, at a time in life when support is needed most.”

Celia Joseph, Community Relationships Fundraising Manager St Elizabeth Hospice, added: “On behalf of the hospice team I want to say a big ‘thank you’ to Stuart and all to everyone who have so generously donated and supported his fantastic fundraising efforts – you have all helped raise an unbelievable sum for the hospice.

“Every penny really will make a difference to our services as we continue to expand our care to support more people and their loved ones through East Suffolk, Great Yarmouth and Waveney for years to come.”

Stuart’s family added: “Stu, well done. We are all super proud of you for raising the amount of money that you have. Love from your family.”
