Stellar acapella choir group fundraising success

20 November 2019

A Suffolk-based acappella choir is celebrating the results of a recent fund-raising concert, ‘Stellar with Swing’ held at Ipswich School, which resulted in the presentation of the generous sum of £2000 to the St Elizabeth Hospice in Ipswich.

The all-female Stellar Acappella, directed by Gaynor Schofield, hosted the event, inviting the national champion barbershop quartet, Portobello Road, and ensemble  Essentially Swing to join them in an evening of harmonious song, and instrumental music. With the addition of comedy from MCs Mike Henderson and Phil Cory, the audience were treated to an excellent evening’s entertainment, at the same time supporting essential services provided by St Elizabeth’s Hospice.

Liz Baldwin, account executive of St Elizabeth’s Hospice said : ‘We are hugely grateful to Stellar Acapella for their wonderful fundraising efforts.  It costs £10.5m a year to run our services, and we have to raise over £8m of this.  Without the support of our local community we simply wouldn’t be able to offer what we do.  Thank you’

Natalie Chaplin, of Ipswich Town and Waterfront described the concert ‘Stellar with Swing’ as:  ‘A performance that engaged the audience from the first to the final note. Totally in awe of the skilful multi-layered harmonies, with songs that were uplifting, others  incredibly moving, the choir sang every song pitch-perfect, and with emotion and elegance. A total triumph’

Other members of the audience provided glowing praise too: ‘That was a superb performance and a super result for St Elizabeth Hospice!’ ‘It was a stellar evening with the talented and harmonious ladies of Stellar Acapella, and for us one the highlights of 2019.’

Since their inception Stellar Acappella has grown to include more than 30 singers and their repertoire of popular songs of 4 to 7-part harmonies with an acappella twist has already given great pleasure to many. Next on the schedule for Stellar is returning by popular demand to Stowmarket for the Rotary Club’s Christmas Concert. ‘Singing from the Heart’.
