St Elizabeth Hospice’s Motorcyle Run raises up to £5,000

More than 250 motorcyclists took to the roads and raised up to £5,000 at St Elizabeth Hospice’s Motorcycle Run.

They rode in convoy on Sunday June 24 to raise money for the local charity.

The scenic route started from Stonham Barns in Stonham Aspal and went through Framlingham, Tunstall, Rendlesham, around the outskirts of Woodbridge, Melton and Martlesham and then along the A14 finishing at the Felixstowe Motorcycle Show in the town centre.

The soponsored event, which was the fourth annual ride-out for the Hospice, was supported by Suffolk Advanced Motorcyclists (SAM), a charity which aims to improve riding standards, and Ray Walters, owner of Orwell Motorcycles.

The Hospice’s community fundraising team leader Rachael Maidment, who helped organise the event, said: “We were really pleased to see more than 250 bikers taking part despite the rain.

“As always they were all so friendly and generous. It was such an amazing sight to see so many motorcyclists all riding for St Elizabeth Hospice. To raise around £5,000 in one morning was brilliant and really will make a difference.

“I would like to thank everyone who took part and everyone who supported the event – the volunteers, Suffolk Advanced Motorcyclists and Ray Walters.

“We hope to see everyone again at next year’s St Elizabeth Hospice Motorcycle Run.”

The Hospice had a stand at the motorcycle show and more donations were collected there.

St Elizabeth Hospice improves life for people living with a progressive illness and provides services free of charge in East Suffolk, North Essex and South East Norfolk.

Its services cost £8.7 million a year to run, with almost three quarters of that figure coming from the local community. It relies on donations and fundraising events such as the Motorcycle Run.
