St Elizabeth Hospice’s Martlesham Retail Centre Hosts Vintage Clothing Event
It’s said that classic clothing doesn’t date, and if you are a fan of vintage fashion you are in for a treat this weekend.
St Elizabeth Hospice’s shop at Martlesham has collected an amazing selection of outfits from its donations, and they will be on sale from the 24th October.
There’s been a lot of discussion about “fast fashion” and it’s impact on the world. From the huge amount of textiles we put in the bin, to the environmental impact of producing new items like jeans, there’s lots of good reasons to embrace buying “vintage”.
The idea to repurpose pre-worn clothes really took off after the First World War when there was a textile shortage, and nowadays there are even Tiktok videos showing you how to modernise items from another era and make them unique to you.
Martlesham retail centre manager Agnes Ankner says: “I have fallen in love with this green feather hat. It’s exquisite! If you wore it with a simple black dress and green shoes you would look stunning.
“We cannot wait welcome customers to this special event which will let them take a step back in time and the opportunity to enjoy finding hidden gems and old classics. In charity shops you never know what you will find and that’s part of the fun, also while picking up wonderful bargains you are supporting your local hospice and helping your community at the same time.”
All of the hospices’ shops sell really good quality “pre-loved” clothes, but if it’s vintage you are after you need to head to Gloster Road in Martlesham where you will find beautiful hats, coats, designer dresses and handbags.
Open from 10am to 4pm the retail centre will be adhering to government guidelines concerning social distancing. This includes customers being required to wear face coverings and hand sanitiser will be made available for use upon entering and leaving all shops. Also, customers are required to observe one way system rules when shopping and queuing and contactless payments are encouraged by the St Elizabeth Hospice retail teams.
