St Elizabeth Hospice’s Hangar Dance raises £8,000 to grow local care for local people

01 July 2013
A 1940’s inspired Hangar Dance saw 800 people stepping back in time to raise £8,000 for local charity St Elizabeth Hospice.

The event was held over two nights at Ellough Airfield, Beccles, on Friday 28th and Saturday 29th June – and Saturday night was a sell-out.

Most people dressed up in 1940’s war-time costumes and everyone enjoyed period music from the Super Swing Big Band and a barbecue and raffle.

Jane Petit, St Elizabeth Hospice’s Chief Executive said: “The Hangar Dance is always a night to remember and this year was no exception. It was a great atmosphere and everyone got into the swing of the 1940’s theme.

“I would like to thank Ken and Sue Woodgate and Ivan and Sylvia Gilbert who worked hard to help make this event such a success and everyone else who supported the event and donated raffle prizes.

“St Elizabeth Hospice cared for over 100 people from Waveney and Great Yarmouth in the last year and the amount raised at the event will help us to continue to reach out to more local people through our day services, inpatient beds and family support.”

A Helicopter ride with champagne for two was auctioned off on the night and won by Mrs Val Franklin with a bid of £400.

St Elizabeth Hospice is investing £2.2m in its services in Waveney and Great Yarmouth over three years and relies on fundraising and donations to meet the majority of its running costs. The charity improves life for people living with a progressive illness in East Suffolk and South Norfolk and provides services free of charge in Beccles, Ditchingham, Gorleston and Ipswich.

Dates for next year’s Hangar Dances have just been announced, they will be on Friday 27th and Saturday 28th June 2014. Tickets will be on sale from 1st May 2014. Contact Ken and Sue Woodgate on 01502 511944.
