St Elizabeth Hospice volunteer to receive an Order of Mercy Award
A long serving volunteer will receive a prestigious award for her dedication and service to St Elizabeth Hospice.
Judy Robertson, 78, has been a volunteer at St Elizabeth Hospice since it opened in 1989 and has been recognised for her work, winning an Order of Mercy medal.
Mrs Robertson of Ipswich was nominated by staff at the Hospice for her work in the Hospice shop and on reception and is delighted to receive the award. She said: “I feel very honoured. It’s a wonderful feeling to win an award for something I love doing, for such a good cause.”
The long-serving volunteer will attend the League of Mercy presentatio
n ceremony at Mansion House in London on June 13th with one of her sons and Sue Tunaley, Executive Assistant at the Hospice.
Mrs Tunaley was one of the people who nominated Mrs Robertson, she said: “I have had contact with Judy on a regular basis and her unfailing support and willingness to help out has made a real difference.”
Verity Jolly, the Hospice’s Director of Patient Services, also nominated Mrs Robertson. She said: “Judy originally helped in the foyer shop until it closed down and not wanting to lose her connection with our organisation, she transferred to the reception area. We are very glad she did and value her as a volunteer.
Up to 30 people nationwide who have given seven or more years of outstanding service are chosen annually to receive the League’s prestigious award for distinguished voluntary services, the Order of Mercy.
The Hospice has around 1,000 volunteers whose help is vital. For more information on volunteering, click here.
