Ryan’s Angels to take on 13 mile Midnight Walk in memory of beloved husband
A group of 23 women have signed up to pound the streets at St Elizabeth Hospice’s Midnight Walk in memory of a newly-wed who died aged 32.
Amy Graham and her team of Ryan’s Angels are walking 13 miles round Ipswich town centre in memory of Amy’s husband, Ryan. He was cared for by the Hospice last year before he died aged 32 from stomach cancer. The couple had been married just a few months.
Ryan’s Angel’s is made up of Amy’s mum and sister, Ryan’s sister, and their friends, aged between 18 to 71 and they will all be dressed in pink cowgirl hats and fairy wings to raise money for St Elizabeth Hospice which improves life for people living with a progressive illness in East Suffolk and South Norfolk.
The Midnight Walk takes place on Saturday 10th May, the weekend after what would have been Amy and Ryan’s first wedding anniversary.
Mum-of-two Amy, 30, of Needham Market, said: “We’re raising money for Ryan’s St Elizabeth Tribute Fund. We want to hit £10,000 by the first anniversary of his death and we’re hoping to hit our target by raising sponsorship for doing the Midnight Walk.”
The women have raised over £2,200 in sponsorship so far, well over their £1,800 target, which brings the total of Ryan’s Tribute Fund to over £8,000.
The Midnight Walk is St Elizabeth Hospice’s biggest fundraising event of the year and over 1,300 men and women have already signed up.
Many participants, like Amy, take part in memory of loved ones, but people also sign up as a fitness or personal challenge, for a fun night out, or to raise money for a local cause.
This year men and women can walk or run, five or eight mile routes, or for the first time, there will be a 13-mile route – Ipswich’s first night-time half-marathon.
There is also a brand new theme – cowboys and cowgirls, so everyone is encouraged to dress up western style.
Get your friends, family and colleagues together for a night to remember and sign up now for just £15 at www.midnightwalkipswich.co.uk
St Elizabeth Hospice costs £9.1millon a year to run and relies on fundraising events such as the Midnight Walk, donations and the income generated from its shops to meet the majority of these costs.
