Remembering loved ones on Suffolk Day 2019

22 June 2019

Felixstowe seafront illuminated the words ‘Suffolk Remembers’ as the sun set on Suffolk Day 2019 to celebrate and remember loved ones in support of St Elizabeth Hospice.

The remembrance event brought together hundreds of people who wanted to remember someone and asked them to make a candle dedication in their memory, which together lit up the words on the longest day of the year.

The event sponsored by the East of England Co-op Funeral Services was open to everyone, regardless of their connection to St Elizabeth Hospice. The evening was led by Norman Lloyd and also included performances by Martlesham Brass and Pop Chorus. Readings were also given by local children Belle Prosser and Marni Jennings.

Rachel Slattery-Klein, individual giving fundraiser, said: “Tonight was very moving for everyone involved so it was uplifting to see so many people joining with us to remember the people and pets most special to us as Suffolk Day closed for 2019.

“Suffolk Remembers is an opportunity for us to reconnect with families who have been a part of the hospice as well as well offering people a chance to meet others and share the stories of those being remembered.

“We would like to thank everyone who made a candle dedication for the hospice. Each one will help us continue to care for people living with a terminal illness as well as providing support to their families, friends and carers.”

Anyone who couldn’t make the Suffolk Remembers event, but would like to dedicate a candle, can make a dedication this weekend at the seafront gardens (near the Spa Pavilion) from 11am to 3pm. Dedications can also be made outside these times at the Spa Pavilion until Monday 24 June.
