Posthumous Art Exhibition to Raise Funds for Hospice

15 August 2023

A posthumous exhibition of the works of Suffolk artist, Bridget Lapsley, is to be held in Felixstowe this September, to raise funds for St Elizabeth Hospice.

Taking place between 14th – 20th September, at 142 Gallery, Hamilton Road in Felixstowe, the exhibition will feature 161 pieces of art by Bridget Lapsley, with all proceeds raised via sales of the art, going towards the charity which supported Bridget until her death in January 2021.

Celia Joseph, community relationships fundraising manager at the hospice, said: “This is a very special exhibition and we are very grateful to the Lapsley family for choosing to support the hospice in Bridget’s memory.

“Bridget’s love of Suffolk can be seen throughout her work and this exhibition will ensure her fantastic talent and creative legacy provides great support to people throughout the local community who receive care from our services, during difficult times in their lives.”

Bridget was born in Derbyshire but grew up in Suffolk and her work is inspired by the familiar landscapes from her childhood, the natural world, and a love of drawing.

Living close to the rivers and estuaries of Suffolk, she was aware of the daily changes in weather, light, skies, agriculture, and wildlife. She said that from then on, wherever she lived, the farmlands, valleys and shorelines of Suffolk held a special significance and influenced her art – all of which will be able to be viewed and enjoyed at this exhibition.

John Lapsley, Bridget’s husband, said: “We are delighted Bridget’s artwork is being showcased at the 142 Gallery and this will be the first time that her work will be seen as a collection. Throughout her life, Bridget tried to make a positive difference, especially to people.

“The exhibition comes the full circle, as proceeds will help to make a special difference to people through the support and services of the hospice.”

Opening times for the free to attend exhibition are 10am-4pm and Wednesday 10am-1pm, with a private viewing available on 14th September 6pm-8pm.

As part of the exhibition, local artist and graphic designer Matthew Leeks will also be showcasing his work at 142 Gallery which will also support the hospice.
