Planning for the future – How to arrange a Lasting Power of Attorney this October
It’s not easy to think about a time when you won’t be able to make your own decisions, but it can help to be prepared.
That’s why it’s useful to start planning for your future now and make an appointment to create a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) and, if you book an appointment with a local legal adviser during October, you also help a local charity at the same time.
Lynn Maskell, legacy offer at St Elizabeth Hospice, said: “The hospice has teamed up with a number of local legal advisers to make it easy and accessible to arrange a Lasting Power of Attorney; a legal document that lets you appoint one or more people to help you make decisions or to make decisions on your behalf and each will be donating 10% of their fee to us for each LPA they make throughout October.”
There are two types of Lasting Power of Attorney; one for health and welfare and another for property and financial affairs. The same person can be named responsible for both but you will need to complete two different LPA documents for this.
Arranging an LPA this October is simple. All you need to do is choose your legal advisor from the list available on the hospice’s website, then book an October appointment quoting SEH/LPA18 (bookings can be made from September). Your donation (10% of the fee) will be made to the hospice through your chosen company at your initial appointment.
By having a Lasting Power of Attorney in place, you’ll have peace of mind for the future that decisions made on your behalf will be made by someone you trust. By making this agreement in October, you’ll also be helping St Elizabeth Hospice to care for members of our community living with a progressive or terminal illness.
