Overseas Challenges Open Day at St Elizabeth Hospice

03 April 2013

An open day is being held for anyone wishing to take on a once in a lifetime challenge for St Elizabeth Hospice.

Take on a once in a lifetime challenge with St Elizabeth Hospice, there will be something for everyone on offer.

This year we are offering a range of unique overseas challenges for you to take part in including: a bespoke climb up Mount Kilimanjaro, Hiking in the Himalayas, Trekking the Great Wall of China and a Zambezi Challenge rafting expedition.

There are also challenges closer to home on offer including a skydive, the Three Peaks Challenge and plenty for cyclists to choose from.

These challenges will not only provide amazing opportunities for supporters to experience, but will also help raise a lot of money for the Hospice which relies heavily on the support and income from the local community.

They are also an excellent opportunity to learn about a new culture, forge lifelong friendships and get fit and healthy.

The Overseas Open Day will provide information on all our overseas challenges and will include a presentation on our bespoke Kilimanjaro event.

It will be held at St Elizabeth Hospice in Foxhall Road on Saturday 13th April and supporters can drop in between 11am – 4pm.

Fundraisers will be on hand to talk about all the events on offer and you can even sign up on the day.

Seven people have signed up to Climb Kilimanjaro so far, including two members of our Community Engagement team.

Rachael Maidment, Community Fundraising Team Leader is hoping to raise £5,000. She said: “Kilimanjaro will be a huge personal challenge for me. It is not going to be easy as I have had surgery on both my feet however knowing I am raising much needed funds for the Hospice will keep me going every step of the way.”

18 people have also signed up to Hike the Himalayas, including a group of 16 led by Norman Finbow. Mr Finbow enlisted 15 of his friends and family to take on the hike in-memory of his wife Linda who was cared for by the Hospice. He said: “Linda and myself have led 5 fundraising treks to Nepal since 1998 and I pledged to organise one last one in her memory. I hope to raise £25,000 for the Hospice this year, the trek is just one fundraiser.”

St Elizabeth Hospice provides services free of charge to patients and their families in East Suffolk, North Essex and South East Norfolk, but relies on donations and fundraising events such as overseas challenges to meet most of its £8.7m a year running costs.
