Over 100 people step out for eighth annual Walk of Thoughts
The Hospice’s eighth annual sponsored Walk of Thoughts raised thousands of pounds for the local charity.
Over 100 walkers made the most of the warm weather and stepped out on Sunday 16th March to remember their loved ones and enjoy a walk through the scenic Suffolk countryside.
Walkers could choose between a three or five mile circular route through Fynn Valley, which started and finished at YM RUFC Rugby Club in Rushmere St Andrew.
Everyone was invited to write the name of their loved one on a pebble, provided by the Hospice, which were displayed around the fireplace at the Rugby Club and were also given a seed bookmark to plant in memory when they returned home.
Before the walk there was an opportunity for reflection led by Hospice chaplaincy volunteer Ann Baeppler.
Around £8,000 is hoped to be raised from the event for St Elizabeth Hospice, which improves life for people living with a progressive illness in East Suffolk and South Norfolk.
St Elizabeth Hospice’s Events and Challenges Lead Fundraiser, Leanne Carhart, said: “It was a lovely day for this year’s Walk of Thoughts and it was wonderful to see so many people supporting the Hospice.
“Thank you to everyone who took part and raised sponsorship. All the money raised from the event really will make a difference to the lives of our patients and their families and carers.”
Miss Carhart also thanked all the volunteers who helped out on the day, Gareth Evans and Ipswich & District Ramblers, for organising the walking routes and Andrew Moore for offering the Rugby Club as the start and finish location.
