Mother and Daughter to Cycle from Vietnam to Cambodia in Aid of Hospice

07 August 2024

Tamsin and Josie Beaumont are to complete a fundraising 400km cycle ride from Vietnam to Cambodia in support of St Elizabeth East Coast Hospice, in memory of their mother and grandmother, Carolyn Alston who was cared for by the charity until her death in 2023.

Taking place in November, the pair will cycle 419km in ten days from Ho Chi Minh City to Angkor Wat as part of the all-women bicycle ride being organised by Dream Challenges.

Funds raised will go St Elizabeth East Coast Hospice as a ‘thank you’ for the support the charity gave Carolyn, at their Beccles home.

Tamsin said: “My daughter Josie and I have done an overnight cycle in the past and we were keen to do another to show our gratitude to St Elizabeth East Coast Hospice for the great support they gave Mum and our whole family.

“Training has been going well and we are both looking forward to the challenge, as well as the chance to explore these two beautiful countries.

“Mum really appreciated the support of the hospice’s services and she would say we are ‘ridiculous’ for doing this, but she would also be so proud of us raising funds for such a special cause.

“Thank you to everybody who donates and supports our cycle. It is a great way for us to give back to the hospice and help them to continue to support other families and their loved ones, during some of life’s toughest moments.”

Since April 2019, more than 4,900 patients and their families in Great Yarmouth and Waveney have been cared for by St Elizabeth East Coast Hospice in partnership with East Coast Community Healthcare.

Kelly Nekrews, Community Fundraiser at St Elizabeth East Coast Hospice, added: “Best of luck to Tamsin and Josie with this fantastic endurance challenge in aid of the hospice.

“Every pound you raise will make such a difference to patients and families under our care, as we continue to expand our services to support even more people in the Great Yarmouth and Waveney area.”
