Mayor set to feel the chill at Christmas Day Dip

16 December 2014

The Mayor of Felixstowe has signed up to take part in a popular annual fundraising event, and is asking others to do the same.

Councillor Graham Newman is taking part in the St Elizabeth Hospice Christmas Day Dip, a festive fundraiser that sees hundreds of Hospice supporters take a dip in the sea for the local charity.

Cllr Newman said “I’m thoroughly looking forward to leading the charge into the North Sea for the Christmas Day Dip, albeit also praying for the warmest Christmas Day since records began!

“Felixstowe’s Christmas Day Dip is a legendary fundraiser for St Elizabeth Hospice, which attracts ever increasing support year on year. It’s a great privilege for me to sound the starting horn for what we hope will be a record turnout, raising money for this most noble of causes.”

Joanne Rodger, Events and Challenges Fundraiser at St Elizabeth Hospice, said: “The Christmas Day Dip is now in its 11th year, and is one of our most popular fundraising events.

“Last year, around 400 brave individuals took part, raising roughly £40,000 to help support local Hospice care.

“If you’re looking for a brilliant way to start the day with your friends and family, then please sign up for this freezing festive challenge.”

Online advance registration for the Dip closes at midday on Tuesday 23rd December. Registration is available on the day. It costs just £5 to take part, or £10 if you’d like to receive an exclusive souvenir T-shirt.
