Matched Giving week gives boost to Be a Star

16 December 2022

St Elizabeth Hospice is thanking the local community for helping its annual Matched Giving week raise over £27,000 for the hospice’s Christmas appeal, Be a Star.

Running between 5th December to 11th December, Matched Giving week saw every £1, up to a total of £10,000 raised for Be a Star by the local community, matched by the generosity of businesses in the area, with this year’s total surpassing Matched Giving 2021’s £21,500.

Liz Baldwin, Corporate and Sponsorship Fundraising Manager at St Elizabeth Hospice, explained: “A big thank you everyone who has supported and donated towards our Be a Star appeal during Matched Giving week, and a massive thank you to all the businesses who helped raise such a brilliant total for the hospice.

“Christmas is such a special time for families and all the funds raised will make a big difference to the families under our care this festive period.”

On average every Christmas, the hospice provides vital care to more than 1,150 people living with progressive and life-limiting illnesses and their families across East Suffolk, Great Yarmouth and Waveney, for many of whom it will be their last Christmas spent together.

Through its annual Be a Star appeal, the charity is encouraging the community to support the hospice during this very special time of year and help staff ensure patients and families can have the Christmas they deserve.

From purchasing items such as Christmas cards, from St Elizabeth Hospice shops or online store, to taking part fundraising events like the Christmas Day Dip or volunteering time to help the hospice as part of a New Year’s resolution.

There are a number of ways to take part in the Be a Star appeal and each one makes a vital contribution to supporting the hospice in making Christmas time a special time for those under its care this year.
