Marathon runners raise £12,000 for Hospice
Eight amazing supporters who took on the challenge of the London Marathon in April raised an incredible £12,000 for St Elizabeth Hospice.
The local men and women ran 26.2 miles along with 38,000 other participants on Sunday 26th April, to raise funds for their local Hospice.
Simon Carpenter, Vikki Shaw, Michelle Buckley, Claire Titmarsh, Nick Jarrold, Stephen Munnings and Scott Marsh all completed the London Marathon in under six hours.
Joanne Rodger, St Elizabeth Hospice’s Events Fundraiser, said: “We are so grateful to our eight incredible supporters for taking on the Marathon in aid of the Hospice. They all did fantastically well, both in finishing the 26.2 mile course in such brilliant times, but also in their fundraising efforts.
“All the money they’ve raised will go towards improving life for people living with a progressive illness such as cancer, Parkinson’s Disease, Motor Neurone Disease and heart, lung or kidney disease.”
Simon Carpenter, who was running the London marathon for the first time on a ballot place, said: “On the day the atmosphere was amazing and the support from the crowds was better than I could ever have imagined. It was an honour to raise money for such a fantastic local cause and it can only go a small way to thank the wonderful hospice for the care they gave my grandfather Walter Tilson several years ago.”
Michelle Buckley, also running the London marathon for the first time, said: “The marathon itself was one of the most emotionally tough experiences of my life, but also one of the greatest achievements of my life to date.
“Seeing the St Elizabeth Hospice banner at mile 23 just reinforced why I was putting my body through so much pain, and knowing that the money I’ve raised will go towards helping people in their hour of need made every single mile worth it.”
