Hospice stalwarts attend Queen’s Garden Party
A volunteer and a fundraiser for St Elizabeth Hospice both received the honour of attending the Queen’s Garden Party.
Long-serving volunteer Peter Neate, and fundraiser Peter Taylor were both nominated to attend the Garden Party at Buckingham Palace by St Elizabeth Hospice’s Chief Executive Jane Petit for their continued support of the Hospice.
She said: “Both Mr Neate and Mr Taylor have been helping the Hospice for many years now, and their contributions deserve to be rewarded. They are both very modest about what they do for the Hospice, but I know they were honoured to be invited to the Queen’s Garden Party.”
Mr Neate, 93, from Felixstowe, has been volunteering for St Elizabeth Hospice for 25 years. He said: “It is a matter of considerable pride to be offered the chance to attend the Queen’s garden party.”
Mr Taylor from Woodbridge has raised thousands of pounds for the Hospice over the years through his woodturning craft sales. He said: “Going to the Garden Party was a once in a lifetime experience and I’m thankful to Jane for nominating me to go.”
Approximately 8,000 guests attend each garden party. People from all walks of life are invited on the recommendation of a large number of national organisations and that guests are generally people who have contributed a large amount to their various organisations or society.
St Elizabeth Hospice is an independent charity which provides services free of charge. Its services cost £8.7 million a year to run, with almost three quarters of that figure coming from the local community.
