Hospice shop re-opens following re-fit with a new look and Men’s Shed

11 June 2015

St Elizabeth Hospice’s popular shop in Dogs Head Street, Ipswich, has re-opened following a re-fit.

The shop, which is in the town centre, was declared re-open by the Hospice’s Acting Chief Executive, Mark Millar, who cut the ribbon on Saturday morning with some of the shop’s dedicated volunteers.

In the two weeks that the shop was closed it underwent a makeover and now includes a ‘Men’s Shed’, a space created and dedicated to men’s fashion and accessories.

The shop, which has been open for eight years, is one of the charity’s most popular and is renowned for its ‘pop-up shops’ within the store, and has previously used the space for the successful vinyl events, the Chic Boutique, and a wedding event.

Cerys Lugo-Packman, the Hospice’s Shop Manager, said: “We are very excited to re-open our doors and welcome back our regular customers – as well as new ones – and to see and hear what they think of our makeover.

“Being in the town centre we are a popular shop and we get a lot of footfall – from men and women of all ages – so we try and stock the shop to appeal to all audiences. A lot of people think that only women shop in charity shops, but that’s not the case – we get lots of men through the door, and we hope they will like the ‘Men’s Shed’ as much as we do.”

The shop located at 12-14 Dogs Head Street, is open Monday to Saturday from 9am – 4.30pm and stocks a range of goods from men’s and women’s clothes, shoes and accessories, to books, DVDs, toys and homeware.

Cerys added: “Charity shops are very on trend again now, and we often have items donated to us which are new and still have the labels on, so you can often find yourself great quality items, at great prices.

“The money raised from our 25 shops accounts for around 20% of the funds it costs to run the Hospice every year – so by shopping and supporting our shops, you really are helping to make a difference to the lives of our patients and their families.”

If you would like to support your local Hospice shop, you can help by shopping in store, donating quality items or volunteering your time.
