Hospice passes Care Quality Commission inspection with flying colours
A recently published report by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) has shown St Elizabeth Hospice meets all of the required standards for patient care.
The report was published following an inspection undertaken in December 2012 by the CQC, the UK health and social care regulator.
The CQC undertakes annual inspections of all care homes, acute hospitals and domiciliary care services in England to ensure national standards of patient care are fully met. Their inspection reports are produced by asking patients about their experiences of receiving care, talking to members of staff, checking that the relevant systems and processes are in place, and looking for evidence that the services provided are meeting national standards.
Among the details highlighted by the CQC’s report were:
- The clearly visible input of members of the Hospice’s multidisciplinary care team in patient care. One patient interviewed by the CQC commented that “the staff are very kind and make me feel comfortable.”
- The high standard of catering provided, particularly the focus on meeting individual dietary needs and desires
- The strength of policies designed to safeguard patients, including young people from the age of 14 years.
Jane Petit, St Elizabeth Hospice Chief Executive Officer, said “Naturally, I am delighted that the Hospice has passed this inspection. We go to great lengths to ensure that all our patients receive the highest possible standard of care, and it is immensely satisfying to see this effort reflected by the CQC’s findings.”
