Hospice Nursing Team to Take on Midnight Walk
A team of nurses and healthcare assistants from St Elizabeth Hospice is set to take on the charity’s flagship fundraiser, the Midnight Walk, this May.
The team, consisting of Tanya James, Sarah Brewster, Sarah Empson, Emma Cooper, Claire Radford and Nikki Bloomfield, all work on the hospice’s Inpatient Unit and will be taking on the 6-mile route in this year’s Midnight Walk, with the team already having raised over £1,000 for the hospice.
Taking place on Saturday 16 May, at Christchurch Park, this year’s Midnight Walk sees the hospice encourage supporters to don their favourite superhero themed costumes as they complete sponsored walks of 6 or 9 miles in aid of the charity.
Sponsored by Knights Lowe, the event will start at Christchurch Park, with the route taking walkers to the hospice grounds where they will be invited to write heartfelt messages in memory of loved ones on a special Memory Wall. Before continuing through Suffolk’s county town past such landmarks as Ipswich Town Hall, The Regent Theatre and Christchurch Park.
Tanya James, Healthcare Assistant at St Elizabeth Hospice said: “We are so excited to be walking alongside supporters at this year’s Midnight Walk and showing our love for the hospice.
“Between us, we’ve spent many years caring for patients and families at life’s most difficult times. Some of us have also had loved ones cared for by the hospice. So, we really understand the importance of compassionate hospice care and the difference it can make when support matters most.
“Six miles is actually the average distance we cover working a 12-hour shift on the Inpatient Unit, so this is the ideal distance for our challenge. We are so grateful for the very generous donations we have already received and really encourage more people to sign up and join us on the night, as we all raise vital funds and awareness for St Elizabeth Hospice!”
With last year’s event raising over £72,000 to support the hospice’s vital services, the Midnight Walk returns for 2026 offering supporters and the local community a chance to party and raise funds for the hospice through sponsorship, as well as an opportunity to remember loved ones who are no longer with us.
All ticket proceeds and donations for Midnight Walk will go to St Elizabeth Hospice, which every year provides support to over 4,000 patients & families living with life-limiting illnesses in East & Mid-Suffolk, Great Yarmouth and Waveney.
