Hospice new training prospectus offers more for carers and organisations

02 November 2018

This week St Elizabeth Hospice launches its new look education and training prospectus for 2019 to include a broader spectrum of courses for both individuals and organisations looking to develop their knowledge of end of life care.

The hospice education centre, which develops and delivers the training programme has expanded its range of courses to meet the needs of families and carers supporting someone with a progressive or terminal illness. It has also added a number of non-clinical courses aimed at those working in the charity or healthcare sector looking to expand their skills.

In addition to the scheduled courses the hospice is also increasing its delivery of bespoke training tailored to the specific needs of organisations such as care homes and agencies, residential and nursing homes and supported living services.

Head of education, Mandy Summons said: “Our experience of working with families has shown us that people need more information and support on what to expect when caring for someone nearing the end of their life and we’ve responded to this by tailoring a number of courses to address this. We also recognise that many organisations need support on specific issues around end of life care and so we work with them to deliver bespoke training targeted to meet their needs.

We also know that we can improve end of life care for local people by upskilling those individuals working with them, whether that be GPs, nurses or care home staff. Our courses are delivered by highly experienced and skilled specialist palliative care doctors and nurses, and members of the palliative multi-disciplinary team and education professionals, which means delegates on all our courses benefit from an exceptional wealth of knowledge and experience.”

The hospice delivers most of its training in its education centre, but can also take training out into the community and deliver sessions locally.
