Hospice announces chief executive made permanent

26 October 2015

St Elizabeth Hospice has announced their current acting chief executive, Mark Millar, will remain at the local charity as a permanent figurehead.

Mark Millar was appointed as acting chief executive at the start of January 2015, working three days a week. He will continue to devote three days to the hospice, flexing his time to meet the requirements of the job.

Mr Millar said: “I am delighted to have accepted the invitation from the Trustees to be the Chief Executive of St Elizabeth Hospice. I have learnt a huge amount in the time that I have been here in an acting capacity. I now have a better understanding of what an excellent service we provide to people, both in the hospice building itself, but also out in the community we serve and which supports us so well.

“It is a real honour to be asked to lead such a dedicated team of staff and volunteers.  I will do everything I can to ensure this an organisation that people are proud to be part of or touched by.”

William Barnes, chairman of St Elizabeth Hospice’s board of trustees, added: “We believe that Mark’s appointment will be very beneficial to the hospice at a time when there are considerable changes taking place in the health economy. The pressures on both NHS and social care budgets mean that charities such as St Elizabeth Hospice need to play an even more important part in supporting those with progressive illnesses.

“We are very pleased he accepted the permanent position and look forward to working with him to ensure we continue to provide the highest quality of care to our patients and their families and reach more people.”

St Elizabeth Hospice improves life for people living with a progressive illness such as cancer, motor neurone disease and heart failure. It costs millions of pounds a year to run and it relies on the generosity and support of the local community to meet the majority of these costs.
