Hospice and Zest Have Paw-some Time With Winston’s Wheels
Patients and service users at St Elizabeth Hospice, and its young adult service Zest, had a ‘paw-some’ time when they enjoyed a special visit from the Winston’s Wheels charity.
Taking place on Friday 31st May, the visit saw Winston’s Wheels, which helps dogs access wheelchair provision, bring along two four-legged friends – Percy and Ziggy – to meet the St Elizabeth Hospice team, ahead of Winston’s Wheels attending the hospice’s Suffolk Dog Day in September.
Percy and Ziggy, who both have wheelchairs provided by Winston’s Wheels, brought smiles to the faces of staff and patients alike during their visit, as they explored the hospice garden, Zest Days and the hospice inpatient unit.
James Fox-Golding, Events and Challenges Manager at St Elizabeth Hospice, said: “We are delighted to have Winston’s Wheels join us at Suffolk Dog Day this September.
“Their visit to the hospice, alongside Percy and Ziggy, has brought a lot of happiness to the hospice this Friday and has really increased all our excitement ahead of Suffolk Dog Day, which we are sure will be a day full of fun for all – so make sure to book tickets now!”
Sponsored by Gladwells Pet & Country Store and Skinners, Suffolk Dog Day 2024 will take place on Sunday 8th September, at Helmingham Hall.
The event will feature a range of fun dog classes, dog agility and scurry activities, as well as over 60 stalls full of doggy goodies, Crufts’ style competitions, children’s entertainment and plenty of food and drink stalls for attendees to enjoy.
Rachel Wettner, found of Winston’s Wheels, said: “It has been an honour to visit St Elizabeth Hospice and Zest today, to see the fantastic work they do.
“It really is an amazing place and it has been lovely to see patients’ eyes light up when they see the dogs and see the excitement of the staff too. We cannot wait for Suffolk Dog Day and look forward to attending this year, while also supporting the hospice.”
Valuable funds raised by Suffolk Dog Day 2024 will go towards the work of St Elizabeth Hospice. An independent charity, which every year delivers specialist palliative care to more than 4,000 people living with a progressive or life-limiting illness, and their families, throughout East Suffolk, Great Yarmouth and Waveney.
Annually this service costs around £12 million to deliver, with 70% of these funds being generated by the local community’s support of the hospice’s income streams, for example retail shops, events – such as Suffolk Dog Day, individual fundraising as well as gifts in Wills and donations.
