Friends to Take On Three Peaks Challenge for Hospice

01 June 2023

A group of twelve friends will be taking on the Three Peaks Challenge this June for St Elizabeth Hospice to raise vital funds for the charity.

Matt Lockwood and his wife Danielle, will be joined by five other couples, as they take on this challenge for the independent Suffolk charity to mark Matt’s 40th birthday and to show their gratitude for the support the hospice gave Matt’s Dad, Graham Lockwood before his death, aged 44-years-old, in 2004.

“After being diagnosed with a brain tumour, Dad passed away at the hospice in 2004,” said Matt, whose family is from Mendlesham.

“The whole hospice team gave him brilliant care and they made both Dad and our family more comfortable, during a very difficult time for us all.

“As a group, Danielle and our friends, were keen to do the Three Peaks Challenge and when we decided we wanted to complete the challenge in aid of a good cause, the hospice was the ideal charity to support and I am very grateful to my friends for doing this with me.

“Hospices rely on the generosity of the local community to do their brilliant work so I am proud we will be able to show our support for this fantastic charity and their compassionate care.”

Taking place on 10th June, the group aim to climb and descend the peaks of Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon in under 24 hours.

All funds raised will go towards St Elizabeth Hospice, which every year delivers specialist palliative care to more than 3,000 people living with a progressive or life-limiting illness, and their families, throughout East Suffolk, Great Yarmouth and Waveney.

Kelly Nekrews, Community Fundraising Assistant at St Elizabeth Hospice, said: “Thank you so much to Matt, Danielle and their friends for taking on this brilliant challenge for the hospice. They have already raised over £2,000 which is just amazing.

“The hospice team wishes them all the best of luck for 10th June and all money they raise will make such a difference to our services and the patients and families under our care, throughout East Suffolk, Great Yarmouth and Waveney.”
