Friends’ Three Peak Challenge Raises Over £5,000 for Hospice
A group of twelve friends have raised £5,240 for St Elizabeth Hospice after completing the Three Peaks Challenge this June.
Matt Lockwood and his wife Danielle, were joined by five other couples, as they took on the challenge for the independent Suffolk charity to mark Matt’s 40th birthday and to show their gratitude for the support the hospice gave Matt’s Dad, Graham Lockwood before his death, aged 44-years-old, in 2004 after having being diagnosed with a brain tumour.
Taking place on 10th June, the group climbed and descended the peaks of Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon in under 24 hours.
“The challenge was very rewarding and we all felt very proud to complete the challenge within the 24 hours,” said Matt, whose family is from Mendlesham.
“It was much tougher than we had anticipated, most notably the terrain on all mountains and the weather on Scafell Pike was not great with 50mph winds and a storm, but we pushed through and the fact we did it for a worthy course made the challenge even more worthwhile.
“A huge thanks to everyone who donated. The funds raised surpassed all our expectations, and alongside the messages of ‘good luck’ they really got us all through the ups and the downs of the challenge.”
All the funds raised have been donated to St Elizabeth Hospice, which every year delivers specialist palliative care to more than 3,000 people living with a progressive or life-limiting illness, and their families, throughout East Suffolk, Great Yarmouth and Waveney.
Kelly Nekrews, Community Fundraising Assistant at St Elizabeth Hospice, said: “A massive well done and thank you to Matt and his friends for raising such a brilliant amount for the hospice.
“Every penny you have raised, really will make a difference as we continue to evolve and expand our services to support more people throughout East Suffolk, Great Yarmouth and Waveney, during difficult times in their lives.”
