First On Your Bike! Ride raises thousands of pounds for Hospice

13 September 2010

More than 200 people used pedal power to raise more than £6,000 for St Elizabeth Hospice by taking part in a sponsored ride called On Your Bike!

Serious cyclists and leisure riders were among those who chose from three routes around Suffolk, leaving from the Royal Hospital School in Holbrook on Sunday morning (Sep 12th).

There was a 50 mile challenge, taking in picturesque countryside and villages, including the historic town of Lavenham, which attracted around 150 cyclists.

Then there were two fun rides of 5.5 or 11 miles for all ages and abilities around the Shotley peninsula.

It was the first time On Your Bike! had taken place and organisers originally hoped for 100 participants so were delighted when 213 took part on the day, making the most of the beautiful sunny weather.

Organiser Rachael Mittell, of St Elizabeth Hospice, said: “The first On Your Bike! was a resounding success and we would like to thank everyone who took part and the volunteers who helped out on the day. We hope to have raised more than £6,000 to help the Hospice continue to improve the quality of life for people throughout East Suffolk who have a progressive illness.”

St Elizabeth Hospice, based in Ipswich, is an independent charity which relies on the generosity of the local community to help fundraise for it by taking part in events such as On Your Bike!

The Hospice’s next event is a Firewalk and family Halloween party on October 30th. For more details visit www. stelizabethhospice.org.uk
