First Bubble Rush in Bury St Edmunds a huge success for local charity
Over 400 people descended on Nowton Park today to take part in the first Bubble Rush in west Suffolk to raise vital funds for young adults living with a progressive or terminal illness.
As the much needed rain arrived, the drizzle didn’t damped the spirits of those taking part as they were blasted with multi coloured bubbles at bubble stations around the park while raising thousands to support local people.
St Elizabeth Hospice brought the event to the area under their new brand Zest. While many are aware of the hospice and the work they do, very few know that they work with young adults from the age of 14 and provide specific services tailored to their needs.
As part of their work, the hospice is looking to expand its care option to include, in the first instance, supported weekend breaks – a service not currently widely available in the eastern region. The hospice is already a centre of excellence in the subject of young adult care and currently shares its experience and expertise with other health professionals around the country.
Natalie Hill, events and challenges fundraiser at St Elizabeth Hospice, said: “It’s been a wonderful day and we really appreciate all the support that local people have given to Zest to help us raise awareness of the work we want to do to help young adults in the area.
“The needs of these young people are complex and not totally understood because, in many cases, the challenges their care presents are new. By raising financial support through Zest we will be looking for the first time to offer hospice care for this age group beyond our traditional hospice geographic boundaries, offering a solution to those across East Anglia.
“Bubble Rush is just the first event we’ll be bringing to the area and we’re so pleased that people have had such a good time raising vital funds to help provide care to this group.”
For those that weren’t able to make the event, a further Bubble Rush will be taking place in Christchurch Park in Ipswich on Sunday 26 August and tickets are still available. To get your tickets, click here.
