Felixstowe family’s festive fundraiser

04 November 2010

Grieving parents will be taking part in St Elizabeth Hospice’s Suffolk Santas in memory of their son who died of a tumour aged 26.

Sally and Anthony Bunting, of Buregate Road, Felixstowe, have signed up for the mass charity bucket collection which takes place on Friday November 26th.

Their son Jonathan Bunting died at home in May this year and had been cared for at St Elizabeth Hospice.

Mr and Mrs Bunting – who will be joined by their daughter Kayleigh and her boyfriend Jonathon Chambers – are among hundreds of people who have agreed to take part in the new fundraising event.

The aim is to recruit 1,000 people all willing to dress up in a Santa suit on the same day to collect donations from their friends, colleagues, neighbours, relatives and community groups.

Each Santa will be asked to give up as much time as they can spare between the hours of 8am and 8pm on November 26th and collect as many donations as they can from their local community or workplace.

It is just £5 to register and the Hospice will provide the Santa suit, collecting bucket and identity badge.

Mrs Bunting said: “Our son Jonathan died earlier this year and this is our way of giving something back in his memory.”

A number of local companies have also agreed to take part including staff from brewers Carlsberg, building firm Brooks & Wood, Morrisons supermarket and

Hire Me.

Sufolk Santas’ event organiser Rachael Mittell said; “By collecting just £65, each Santa will be funding five minutes of St Elizabeth Hospice care.

“This is a simple yet fun way of raising money to help us continue to provide specialist services and support.”
