Ed Sheeran auction raises £30,000 for St Elizabeth Hospice
Ed Sheeran’s most prized possessions were up for auction over the weekend at Bishop & Miller auctioneers in Stowmarket.
The Shape of You singer donated over three hundred items, raising £30,000 for St Elizabeth Hospice’s initiative Zest which supports young adults living with terminal illness.
One of the young adult patients, Dominic Davies, joined Managing Director Oliver Miller to hit the auction hammer and start the selling.
As well as local Suffolk fans competing for bids in the auction house, global interest stretched far and wide with winning bids on the internet from Japan, America, Canada and many items being sold to Germany and Ireland.
Some of the biggest lots included a signed surfboard from HOAX, one of Ed’s favourite brands, which came in at £460 and a knitted Ed Sheeran with signed mini guitar fetching £1,300. The most anticipated lot – Ed’s signed acoustic guitar – sold at £5,200.
Other items on sale included personalised gifted sports shirts from international teams, signed David Beckham LA Galaxy shirts, a variety of Ed’s trainers, signed CDs and old music books owned by the Grammy award winner.
Patrick Otter, Retail Operations Director from St Elizabeth Hospice and Zest, said: “We’re hugely grateful for the support of Bishop & Miller in co-ordinating today’s Ed Sheeran auction and the donations from Ed. Not only has it generated much-needed funds to support our work with local young adults, but also highlights the support we provide to our patients with complex palliative care needs.”
The money raised from the auction will help St Elizabeth Hospice provide services to young adult patients through Zest, helping with initiatives such as weekend respite breaks and support for those transitioning from children’s services to adult hospice care.
